• Unique expert guidance on DAB+ trials available for the first time
• "DAB+ digital radio: a guide to a successful field trial" covers all aspects of trial broadcasts
• Launched in Malaysia at ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2024.
In response to significant interest from new territories in developing DAB+, WorldDAB has today published a guide to establishing a successful field trial - a key step in laying the groundwork for a future rollout, and fully implementing digital broadcast radio.
The new expert factsheet: "DAB+ digital radio: a guide to a successful field trial" covers all aspects of undertaking a trial including:
• Motivation
• Stakeholder engagement
• Regulatory and licensing
• Equipment
• Technical aspects including drive testing for coverage checks and feature testing
• How to conclude field trials activities
The guide is published today at the ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, where WorldDAB is holding an expert DAB+ seminar and hosting a digital radio pavilion with WorldDAB members AVT, GatesAir, Paneda and RadioDNS joining the pavilion.
It forms part of the free comprehensive resources on launching and operating DAB+ offered by WorldDAB on its website, including the 118-page ebook "Establishing DAB digital broadcast radio", now available in both English and French.

WorldDAB Project Director, Bernie O'Neill said: "When radio stakeholders become interested in establishing DAB+ digital radio, they want to explore DAB+ features and capabilities and understand the process to establish DAB+ as a full-scale national broadcasting system. One of the best ways to undertake these initial steps is to establish an on-air field trial and this new guide is designed to help them successfully take these first steps which inform the final system design."

The guide sets out that field trials provide valuable opportunities for radio stakeholders to experience DAB+. Different stakeholders will have different perspectives - for example, the focus may be audio quality for broadcasters and listeners, transmission planning parameters for network operators, and capacity and interference requirements for regulators.
