In early 2020, at the beginning stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, the creators of Songbird set out to make a disaster movie that would capture the moment and challenge what filmmakers can do during unprecedented times. With stripped-down crews, tucked away environments, tightly packed sets, and numerous other challenges, they assumed they'd need to rely on camera phones, laptop conference call videos and other found footage. But it was Producer Michael Bay, DP Jacques Jouffret and Director Adam Mason that turned their attention to the RED KOMODO and the realization that this movie could capture the scale and cinematic imagery without sacrificing any intimacy or flexibility, and that a seemingly impossible movie could be made during impossible times with help from bleeding-edge technology like KOMODO.
