Tascam is pleased to announce its new Audio File Manager software for Windows and macOS, a free application designed to help both field and multitrack recordists achieve the highest quality results from their recording efforts. The software allows users to quickly confirm the content of recorded material, while helping to organise their recordings and facilitate a smooth transition to the next step in their projects.
At its core, Tascam Audio File Manager is a file browser that displays the waveform of every file in a selected folder and offers a wide range of additional features. The software allows the user to quickly zoom in and out of the waveform to take a closer look at the audio material. The visual inspection helps to recognise peaks or pops that you would normally want to remove at a glance.
Editing functions included
Basic editing functions include Copy, Cut and Paste – essential tools for fine-tuning any recorded passage. Mute and Normalise functions further help users to optimise their recordings.
To rationalise the handling of files, Audio File Manager allows multiple files to be renamed simultaneously according to a specific pattern, making it easy to efficiently prepare recordings of a specific scene.
Another key feature is support for network drives and cloud services such as AWS storage or Dropbox which allows users to share audio files with other team members.
Support for many file formats
In addition to standard stereo audio files, Audio File Manager can also play multitrack WAV files via its built-in mixer. Sampling rates from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz and resolutions of 16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit float and 32-bit integer are supported. With the ability to read a wide range of popular audio file formats, including WAV, MP3, AIFF, AIFC, SD2, MP2, MPEG-4 and M4a, almost any project can be fine-tuned using the software.
