Studiotech upgrades VAR/VOL services with RTS intercoms.

• Intercom systems from RTS improve communication efficiency for Studiotech’s VAR/VOL services for Hungarian Football Association
• OMS (OMNEO Main Station) and KP-4016 keypanels from RTS streamline operations across four mobile units
• Integration with Ereca Stage Racer 2 and Dante ensures seamless connectivity.

Amsterdam/Budapest, Hungary, September 2024 - Since its inception, Studiotech has been at the forefront of delivering top-tier VAR (Video Assistant Referee) and VOL (Video Operation Leader) services for the Hungarian Football Association. Operating four specialized vans equipped with cutting-edge technology, Studiotech ensures that each match in Hungary's premier football league meets the highest standards of broadcast quality.

Recognizing the evolving demands of modern football broadcasting, Studiotech recently undertook a comprehensive upgrade of its communication systems. The objective was to implement a future-proof, intuitive system that boosts operational efficiency. Collaborating closely were System Engineer, András Hajba, VAR System Specialist Zoltán Koltai and System Architect Máté Kovács.

At the heart of the upgrade lies the OMS (OMNEO Main Station). Housed in a compact 1RU enclosure, OMS offers a flexible and cost-effective multi-format solution that combines and processes various protocols and standards including DANTE, AES67, RVON, wired and wireless as well as digital and analog devices - making it an ideal choice for Studiotech’s dynamic operational environment.

The introduction of DANTE audio networking, combined with the OMS digital 4W ports, has significantly improved Studiotech’s van connectivity. “All our van interconnection issues became a simple network configuration question,” explains Máté Kovács. “The IP connection between them now carries not just video data but all the intercom signals through a dedicated VLAN. So, wherever they are, any number of vans can talk to each other easily. The same applies to the fourth, newly built van, where DANTE brought a quick interconnect to the Ereca stage box system, ensuring smooth communication with the host broadcaster.”

Complementing the OMS are twelve KP-4016 keypanels, each enhanced with control packages and MCP gooseneck microphones, ensuring operators have personalized audio mixes at their fingertips. Additionally, twelve LH-300 single-sided RTS headsets were selected for their all-day comfort, adjustable boom for precise positioning, making them ideal for the high-pressure environment of live sport broadcasting.

“The user interface of the keypanels allowed the operators to create personal mixes from the listened sources, with the level they want,” notes VAR System Specialist, Zoltán Koltai. “This upgrade also resolved the issue we faced during international matches, as not it’s just a matter of selecting the right alpha keys to have names in Hungarian or English.”

System Architect Máté Kovács emphasized the importance of this project: “Being a part of a national 1st division football league broadcasting team is naturally a high-profile project. Since the beginning, we’ve insisted on providing the highest possible level of service, which included continuous training of our staff and keeping our vans up to date. This intercom upgrade has made the work of the referees, as well as our own colleagues, much easier and more seamless."

Months into its deployment, the feedback from the field has been overwhelmingly positive. The intuitive interface, superior audio quality and desired mobility have not only streamlined operations, but also refined the workflow for referees and technical staff. The new intercom solution has become an instrumental part of matchday operations, improving communication and efficiency across the board.
